Map Crosshair

On the iPhone app a small crosshair sits fixed a little above the middle of the screen. Drag the map under it, and the readings along the top of the screen come from that exact spot. On the website the readings follow your pointer.

Live — updates as you move the map

More detail

What the readings are. From left to right along the top, you see the position of the spot, the water depth there, and the value of the data layer you have up, shown under that layer's own name. Once you have picked a species from the Bite Intel button, you also see the BITE reading for it. The BITE reading is a habitat match from 0 to 100: how much the water at that spot resembles water that species has been caught in. Position, depth and temperature follow your units in Preferences.

How to use it on the iPhone app. Drag the map until the water you care about is under the crosshair, then wait a moment: the old number stays on screen until the new one arrives. To read your own spot, tap the boat button on the right. The map recenters so your boat sits under the crosshair. The crosshair is not your boat, which is the separate boat icon. With a species picked, the fish button at the top of the right-hand controls opens the breakdown of the BITE reading for the spot under the crosshair.

On the website. The same readings are in the bar at the top center of the map. Move the pointer over the water and they change as it moves. Click a spot and the readings stay on it, marked Pinned, until the pointer is over the map again or you clear the pin. With the pointer off the map and nothing pinned they read the middle of the map.

Limits. Depth and the layer value disappear when the spot is over land. Depth shows even with no data layer chosen. A reading is only as fine as the layer behind it.
